Friends & Neighbors –
This November I hope to earn your vote as I run for a second term on the Barrington School Committee.
Together we are heading into unprecedented times. Every one of us, from parents to teachers to students to staff, have had to adapt to a new reality. All while dealing with the challenges that continue to persist in our schools and our community.
I am proud of how we have responded as a learning community. There is no “one right way” forward, but our collaboration gives me hope that we are up to the challenges that lie ahead.
My first two years on the Committee have been a crash course in learning how our schools and local governance works. I have spoken, emailed and met with hundreds of you about our schools. We’ve talked about curriculum, field trips, policies, infrastructure, finances, leadership, safety, strategic planning and more. We’ve celebrated together. We’ve commiserated. We’ve grown.
If I have learned one definitive thing as a public official, it is this — there is still so much more to be done.
As I return to an election year, my platform remains the same even though the times have changed.
Accountability – I believe change only happens when individuals and institutions take responsibility for their decisions and actions. Behind every decision, program and achievement there are real people making things happen. Engaging these key stakeholders – in good times and bad – is critical for progress.
Community – I believe that Barrington is best served when all of our community members are engaged and heard. Our town is more diverse and dynamic than we often appreciate; and our opinions often even more so. Our recent history has shown that working together, while challenging at times, yields better outcomes.
Transparency – I believe that open governance at all levels is the only way to move forward together as a community. I know firsthand how challenging this can be, but I am also reminded daily how far we have yet to go. A clear path forward is built on the open book of our journey to this point.
Even with the pandemic, I continue to have extremely high expectations of our schools and local leadership. A standard to which I also hold myself. I remain committed to representing your voice and concerns, and my inbox and phone are open for your input and feedback (see below).
I am looking forward to continuing as your School Committee representative and working with you to shape a better, brighter future for our schools.
Best,
Patrick John McCrann
